Well, all good things must come to an end, right? I am sad to say that we have reached month 12 of the 12 Months of Drinks series. YUP. This is the last drink. So, why not end it with a body warming glass of mulled wine otherwise known as Gluehwein? It has been BITTER cold here in St. Louis and after being outside, this drink will warm your soul. And, I loved sipping it while laying on the couch under a blanket with a good book on a quiet night. Ahhh, nothing is better then a calm and relaxing night with your legs up… and with a glass of warm wino. 🙂
I also wanted to announce my next 12 Months series and it will be 12 Months of Silhouette Projects! There is an awesome Facebook group (see HERE) just for Silhouette newbies like me and they do a different theme each month. I thought it would be fun to sign up for their yearly themed party and challenge myself in new and unique ways with my machine. I also thought it would be fun to get to know some new (to me) bloggers that participate in this fun gathering. My first 12 Months series was Freezer Meals (see ALL freezer meals at the bottom of THIS post), second was Drinks and now I want to do something other then food/drinks and Silhouette projects it is! This will be challenging yet fun. And, next year I’ll do something new once again!
So, let’s end this party with some Gluehwein!!
What’s nice about this recipe is that it REHEATS perfectly! I made this on a SCHOOL day (had to have daylight to take the photos!) and only drank half a glass, because I am NOT a day drinker. I left the remainder of it in the pot and stored it in the fridge for a couple of days and reheated it on the stove to go with dinner. It tasted even BETTER (I left the orange peel and cinnamon sticks in) and was such a nice addition to our dinner! So, make this ahead of time if you have friends coming over or enjoy it TWO separate nights. Its such a great sippy drink for a lazy week night or on a dinner night when its freezing out. This drink is EASY and will not disappoint! AND, you probably have all of these items at home already! I sure did!
Gluehwein Mulled Wine Recipe:
Ingredients:
Bottle of Red Wine (regular 750 mL size)
1 Orange
1 Cinnamon Stick
10 Whole Cloves
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup water
(you may want to buy an extra orange or have extra cinnamon sticks to add to your glass/mug for extra flavor)
Instructions:
Add sugar, water and cinnamon stick to a pan. Bring to a boil and then simmer.
Cut an orange in half and squeeze juice into pan.
Place cloves into peel of the orange and place into water.
Remove the oranges and then pour drink into mugs or if using wine glasses, warm the glasses first under hot water so that the glass does not break. I actually preferred them in coffee mugs, it kept the wine warm for longer and just made it seem cozier! Yum!
I hope you enjoy this drink as much as I did and that it keeps you warm the rest of this COLD winter!
