Breakfast has always been a challenge for me as a mom. I usually drink a protein shake and then I give the kids cereal EVERY SINGLE day. My son doesn’t even like milk with his cereal, so I wanted to find a way into ‘tricking’ him into drinking milk. I also wanted to add some fruit to our daily breakfast. When I heard about Carnation Breakfast Essentials®, I was excited to add calcium, vitamins and protein to our breakfast… along with some fruit! That is why I came up with the Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie for my family and we tried it out for a 7 Day Challenge!
And, you know what? We all passed the 7 Day Challenge! And you can, too by entering the Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Sweepstakes below:

You can make breakfast nutritious yet fun at your house, too! I decided to go with a Valentine’s theme for our smoothies and set up a paper heart banner that I had made several weeks ago. I then whipped up the smoothie and put it in clear glasses with fun strays and magnetic heart clips!
I believe the presentation made the drink even better!
I found these chalkboard heart clips at Walmart and they were so fun to personalize for the drinks. I am sure I’ll find a lot of other uses for them, too. I also used some fun straws and cut them with fabric scissors to shorten them.
I nestled this extra clip in with some strawberries for an added touch.
We definitely all loved this Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie for breakfast! Yum!
Of course, I did all of my shopping for these Carnation Essential Powders® and Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Ready-to-Drink Bottles at Walmart. I found them in the Grocery section under Breakfast. The Carnation Essential Powders® come in multiple flavors such as Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. The powder is also offered in regular or sugar free.
Now, let me tell you how to make this delicious Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie (only 350 calories!):
Ingredients:
2 Cups of Strawberries
1 Cup of Skim Milk
Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Powder Mix Packet in Rich Milk Chocolate
Light Whipped Cream
1/2 Tablespoon Sprinkles
Directions:
Cut the stems off of the strawberries.
Add 1 cup of milk to the strawberries.
Add ice.
Blend up the smoothie, I used my Ninja.
This is optional, but it helps when you’re trying to get your kids to eat something nutritious! I added some Valentine sprinkles to the rims of the glasses.
I dolled up the glass with a chalkboard pin and fun straws. It was a HUGE hit with the kids.
As a busy mom, sometimes I like to work out first thing in the morning. I usually run on the treadmill or I do a workout DVD. I love that I can enjoy a Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Ready-To-Drink bottle before my workout. It helps give me a little extra energy before and after my workout, so that I can get my kids up and ready for their day!
It is nice to have two options for breakfast with Carnation Breakfast Essentials®.
