This is the third year we have done the Make Tracks at the Zoo, it starts with a beautiful 5k race through Forest Park with children races following the 5k. This is Nathan and Autumn’s second year running the children races!
Brian and I ran the 5k and I felt like I did really well figuring that we had Nathan’s birthday party with the boys in his class the night before. I was a few seconds off from PR’ing, but I did PR for this particular race by quite a bit. LAST year I came in at 32:24 and this year I came in at 29:59. Yes, 1 second short of 30 minutes! This 5k has a lot of hills and it is in May so you are running in heat and humidity (see how red my face is?), so I was excited to beat last years time by over 2 minutes! Yeah!
Here are my stats, I am really excited that I placed 34th place out of my age range!
Chip Time: 29:59
Chip Pace: 9:39 min/mi
Age Group (35-39): 34th out of 211
Female: 241st out of 1,427
Overall: 509th out of 2,133
I am keeping my 27 minute 5k PR goal for this year, wish me luck. Hoping to accomplish it on a FLAT 5k. 😉
After the 5k, we met up with my parents and the kids and watched the kids play in the trees around the race area. Forest Park is a beautiful park, if you ever come to St. Louis check it out. 🙂
I love this photo of the kids by the water.
Finally it was time for the kids races, Nathan would run the half mile kids race and Autumn would run the quarter mile race. Last year they were both in the same race, the quarter mile one. Nathan was excited to run in the bigger kids race and he did really well. I am sorry, but I do not have their times.
Autumn was sad she had to wait until brobro’s race was over until she could start hers.
Autumn waiting to start, look at how excited she is!
You can see the back of me and Autumn here, starting her race
Autumn finishing her race. They had cheerleaders and even mascots dressed up to give high fives to along the race route! How fun!!!
The kids got ribbons, so of course I had to do an after race photo. Such cutiepies, aren’t they? I love them so much and I am so proud of them! I hope we keep this race as a tradition for many years to come, until they are old enough to run the 5k with me!
After the race there was a little more playing around… Nathan wanted to take this BIG stick home!
The kids also got to play in the water spray by the firetrucks. We also got a free breakfast on our way out and I had never seen the kids eat faster! lol!
