Last night we had a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration with the kids and my parents! Brian and I love to be in the kitchen together and we worked away on a bunch of appetizers… yep, no main course… just lots of apps! And, well… some wine and champagne!
If you are looking for a quick little party spread… this will do the trick, with some salty and fruity treats. Plus, it was really easy to whip up! In the middle I poured a jar of Hacienda salsa (a really popular local restaurant here in St. Louis) with some Scooper tortilla chips. I thought about making my own salsa, but the tomatoes aren’t the best this time of year and the Hacienda is some good salsa!
Then I made these cute little skewers of grapes and cheese. I used purple and green grapes for color interest and Swiss and chipotle cheddar cheese.
Then, for the sweeter side… nutella stuffed strawberries! Hull out a strawberry and then fill a piper with nutella so that you can neatly dispense the nutella on the inside and outside of the strawberry.
Then, if that isn’t enough… I also made stuffed mushrooms! These mushrooms have two different cheeses, stuffing and spinach in them. You can find the recipe for the Parmesan spinach stuffed mushrooms HERE.
My honey made ciabatta bread with an olive oil dip… this bread was made from scratch and it was AWESOME. Reminds me of the bread that they have at Macaroni Grill. He made two big batches of it and they were both almost gone.
Here was the entire spread on the table… notice that my Mom brought some cookies and chocolates as well. Eating Pinwheels is a tradition from my childhood, my Mom always bought these marshmallow cookies covered in chocolate. YUM!
I ALWAYS buy poppers for the kids. Every year Target seems to carry different poppers. This year they were EXTRA big and EXTRA messy.
Getting ready to pop… I was a little nervous, because the container said it was for indoor or outdoor use, but it MAY stain fabrics. Uhhh, what?! It was kind of cold and dark out, so we shot them off inside… down the hall… away from the couches and carpet. Ha!
And, then there was an explosion of confetti and the kids just dived into it and were jumping around like crazy. Ohhh, to be a kid again. If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you can see a video of their excitement HERE. Oh, ignore the kitty litter box and Tide… I am one of those wives that leaves the heavy stuff for the hubby to carry down the stairs. 🙂
After all the confetti hit the floor… I decided it would be cute to get a picture of me and my hubby toasting to some champagne before the kids went to bed at 10:00 p.m. (and that was LATE enough fro them! ha!). And, no… I am not in any cute little NYE outfit… I saw all of these gorgeous NYE outfits on IG and… well, I didn’t leave the house the entire day! LOL! So, I am in my comfy clothes… I even got a 6 mile run in before my parents showed up! 🙂 I probably ate that times 3 in calories that night. Oh well.
It was a wonderful night and… sadly, Brian and I were in bed at midnight… lol. But, we did wake up and hear TONS of fireworks going off at midnight. And, then the kids woke us up two times after that. Ahhh, I am a little tired today, but it was all worth it.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
