Last fall, Brian and I took off work to enjoy a day of crepes, outlet shopping and a winery and had so much fun that we decided to do it again this year! We did everything the same, except checked out a different outlet mall (there are two in the same general area) and we also went mum shopping. It was a great day!
After we dropped the kiddos off at school, we headed to Rooster, a cafe that specializes in crepes. I had a mocha cappuccino with a shot of caramel. Then, I ordered the bacon #2, which had bacon (duh), vermont cheddar and caramelized onions. It was delicious! For dessert I had my OWN dessert crepe (Brian and I wanted our own!) with Nutella and bananas! Yum, yum, YUM! We might start doing a Spring winery day once a year and if we do, I want to try the City Coffeehouse Creperie in Clayton. I have heard they have really good crepes, too!
After the crepe place, we were stuffed and ready to work off some calories while trying on some fall clothes at the outlets. The reason we went to the outlet stores last year was to kill some time in-between breakfast and the winery, since the winery place doesn’t open until 11:00 a.m. We had so much fun at the outlets last year, that we decided to try out the St. Louis Premium outlets this year. I was disappointed that they didn’t have a Banana Republic Outlet store, but they did have a Kate Spade Outlet store… which was AWESOME. I landed up buying a lot of fall must haves (on my list!) from The Gap Outlet and got a few items at J. Crew Outlet. I didn’t get the camo pants in the above, photo… I would have, but I had to try on them on one size up from what I normally wear and they were too loose! They were out of the size I normally wear. I did get the leopard print converse, the orange striped sweater and black/white striped vest.
I also found this cute Olaf trick or treat bag for Autumn.
After outlet shopping, we headed to the winery and got there right at lunch time. Isn’t the inside of the winery beautiful with all of the candles?
We bought a sampling package, but didn’t like any of the new wines as much as the Chambourcin we had when we visited last year. SO, we bought a bottle of one of the new wines we had tried and ordered the Chambourcin for lunch. We also tried a different cheese and sausage plate this time… it was really good! Although, I have never met a cheese and sausage plate that I did not like… 🙂
It was a lot cooler this year from last year, but we got to sit at one of the tables with a couch and not just chairs! AND, they had a heater in the ceiling above us and I wasn’t cold at all! It would have been nice if we had brought a blanket to cuddle under… We had a wonderful time munching and wine-ing together! I am always bummed when special days like this end with my loving husband!
After the winery, we stopped at a local nursery for some mums and pansies. It was a beautiful nursery, but, uhm… $60 for 4 mums and 2 pansies? And, once I got the mums in my pots I realized they weren’t nearly as big as the mums I get from a nursery right by our house. I was a really disappointed. I blame the wine for my silly overpriced purchase. 😉
Enough about our little day date…
Are you ready for the meal plan for this week?
Menu Plan for Week of September 21, 2014:
Sunday – Birthday Party, Pizza and Ice Cream!
One of my friends from high school invited me, Brian and the kids to a birthday party at a new place. I’m excited to catch up with old friends while the kids run around and blow off some steam. I am also excited to get out of cooking dinner!!
Monday – Apple and Onion Beef Brisket with Smashed Sweet Potatoes and Fried Okra, recipe HERE
I have never made brisket before… this is a slow cooker meal, SO I figured I can’t mess it up, right?! I am going to serve it with smashed sweet potatoes and some fried okra. My neighbor gave me some okra from her garden, so we’ll see if they kids like it. ha!
Thursday – Potato, Leek and Spinach Quiche
I made this quiche YEARS ago… before I had kids!! I always wanted to make it again and recently found my old quiche cook book! It is a bit of a pain to make, lots of chopping… but, it is SO worth it. I need to remember to take a photo of it.
Saturday – Eat Out
Weekly Dessert – Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies, recipe HERE
I plan to make this dessert IF I can find one of the ingredients… I need pumpkin spice instant pudding. It wasn’t at Schnucks, so I am going to try Dierbergs tomorrow when I go pick up our brisket!
