Well, another 10k is in the books… and after my cruddy half marathon I ran last month (see post HERE)… I was SO excited to PR this 10k! Yay! Brian even signed up on the last day of registration and ran it with me. Such a great hubby he is! Unfortunately, I ran out of time and did not figure out a costume for this race. I wanted to be a candy corn and even had DIY ideas pinned on Pinterest, but… I didn’t get around to it. We did go to a Halloween costume store after trunk or treat (yes, the race was the morning after trunk or treat… ugh) and I couldn’t find ANYTHING that would turn me into a candy corn. Dang… So, I went as me! A hot and sweaty candy corn would probably melt anyway, right?
I usually run the St. Louis Go! Halloween 10k, but that weekend didn’t work out for me. This was my first time running the Gumbo Flats Pumpkin 10k and I LOVED it. It is mostly flat, which probably helped with my PR… only a small part of it consisted of running on gravel (which I hate) and we even got to run on the airport runway! The parking was easy, it wasn’t overly crowded and the weather was delightful… as in, not too cold and not hot and humid.
I didn’t really ‘officially’ train for this 10k. It was 2 weeks after my half marathon, so instead of taking a week off from running like I usually do after I run a half… I kept running, but kept it at my usual 17 miles a week. I run 17 miles a week (4 runs a week- a 6, 5, 4 and 2 mile run) when I am not training for any particular race. For this race, I wanted to PR… so, I pretty much ran as fast as I could for the entire race. I didn’t even stop for water, but I normally don’t need to hydrate for 6 and under miles unless it is HOT and HUMID.
Here are my stats for this race:
Chip Time: 54:38 (my old best time was 56:43, so I accomplished a 2:05 minute PR!)
Overall: 81/324
Gender: 31/206
Age Group: 11/39
Pace: 8:48/mile (SO excited to be in the 8 minute range!)
Here I am after the race once I realized I had PR’ed! Yay! Finishing a race is such a high!
Race Map
The post run spread was not bad at all… Pizza! I’ve never had greasy pizza after a race before, but it was GOOD! Chick Fil A cookies? Give me some! Too bad they didn’t have Chick Fil A lemonade, though… it is my fave.
And, the Ace Cider I had was one of the best ciders that I’ve ever had… maybe because it was so refreshing after running?!
So, what are my plans for now? I might run a 5k in the winter, I always try to… BUT, I am feeling sort of tired after just doing a half and a 10k. I run every week, but races are different… you have to make time to train, pick up the packet and get up EARLY to run in them. I am sort of thinking I may just skip the winter 5k this year. But, we’ll see…
And, this Spring I am still looking at running my first full marathon. I’m looking at some training programs for it. If I do decide to run it, it will be the St. Louis Go! Full Marathon. I plan to blog about it a lot, because this will be new to me… and, how often does one run a marathon? Well, if you’re my blog friend Aubrey A LOT, if you’re me… ONCE in a lifetime. SO, I can’t wait to share a little about my experience on here once the training for it starts in December. I am sure you’ll hear a lot of complaining and moaning… because, I know it is going to be a huge commitment. 🙂
