My kids have been out of school for a few weeks now, BUT I know there are a lot of kids across the nation that are still in school or that just got out. I always like to do something special for the kids when they get out of school and I thought now that everything has calmed down for a bit, it would be fun to surprise them with this End of School Ice Cream Taco Bar! I was at Walmart last weekend in the ice cream aisle and saw the new clear containers that Blue Bunny® has their ice cream in and you can see all of the swirls, flavors, etc. There is also a lot of new and fun flavors to try!
End of School Ice Cream Taco Bar
First, you’ll want to visit your local Walmart to pick up some ice cream, toppings and waffles. While at Walmart, I picked up three flavors of the Blue Bunny® ice cream for a little variety for the taco bar:
- Blue Bunny® Cherry Pickin’ Chocolate™
- Blue Bunny® Vanilla Cupcake
- Blue Bunny® Cookies & Cream
I browsed the toppings section, which is on the end of the ice cream aisle on the end cap and they also offer more topping choices over by the coffee, hot chocolate, etc. I decided to pick up the Smucker’s Sundae Syrup Caramel Flavored Syrup. Smucker’s ice cream toppings are a great inexpensive way to add some fun to your summer ice cream. I also picked up some fruit and the waffles, which will serve as the taco shells.
Once you get home, set up an area in your home where you’ll want to set up the ice cream taco bar. At first I was going to set it up outside under our pergola, but it was too hot and the ice cream would have melted too fast. I suggest setting up the ice cream bar inside and then you can move outside (if you want) to enjoy the ice cream taco!
You’ll want to toast your waffles first (or cook on the skillet) and let them cool.
Then, cut up any fruit that you want to add to the taco bar. Fruit is a refreshing treat to see in ice cream during the summer. I cut up strawberries, bananas and added a bowl of blueberries.
You’ll also want to add Smucker’s Sundae Syrup Caramel Flavored Syrup or any of the other Smucker’s ice cream toppings.
Take the lids off of your Blue Bunny® ice cream and get ready to scoop! I bought three varieties of the Blue Bunny® ice cream, so I added one scoop of each flavor to the tacos! The flavor shown above is the Blue Bunny® Vanilla Cupcake and you can see the swirls and sprinkles from inside the clear container.
Put three scoops (or less) on top of your waffle and then decide which toppings you want to add on top of the ice cream.
I added bananas, strawberries, blueberries, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles and the Smucker’s Sundae Syrup Caramel Flavored Syrup to my taco.
You can eat the taco with the waffle flat with your ice cream and toppings all on top OR you can press the two sides of the waffle together to make a taco shape. I put a wooden skewer in the middle of the taco to help it keep its shape until I ate it. Yum!
