A couple of weeks ago, Brian and I visited the beautiful Secrets Maroma resort for our first ever all inclusive vacation. We were looking for a relaxing vacation on the beach and we got exactly what we wanted. It was perfect. 🙂 We had a shuttle that took us from the airport to the resort. Upon arrival at the resort, we received a glass of champagne with a cherry in it (yum!) and we checked in.
Day One
We didn’t receive our room until abut 3 p.m., so we hung out in the lobby and enjoyed a couple of drinks. It was pretty relaxing, especially since we caught such an early flight. Brian had a margarita and I had a tropical drink (can’t remember the name, sorry!).
I think the buzzer went off sooner for our room, but Brian was snoozing and had it in his pocket… SO, we had to ask if it went off! LOL! We blame the margarita he had. 😉 We also went to lunch while we waited for our room in the buffet dining area.
I tried a raspberry chocolate martini and it was my favorite drink that I had the entire trip. It tasted like a chocolate strawberry, but in liquid form! lol! It was fun to try drinks while we waited for our room. The lobby bar had the most expansive menu of drinks to order!
Once we checked into our room, I was in love. It was VERY romantic. There were pillars of faux candles you could turn on with a light switch. It was really spacious, modern and clean.
The jacuzzi in our room was really nice, too… but, sadly we didn’t use it! We were going to, but decided to go to our swim out pool instead. I guess when you have a swim out room, the jacuzzi is just not going to get much use.
Here was the swim out pool area! We sat out here and enjoyed some meals and swam a lot.
The swim out area we had was really peaceful and there was lots of wildlife to look at in the shrubbery. In the photo above, you’ll see some raccoon type monkey things! There was a whole family of them! We ordered a snack one day and they gave us a basket of rolls and this tropical bird that looked like a crow came and pulled a packet of butter out of the bread basket. It then threw it on the ground, flipped it over and pierced through the foil with its beak! It then ate the butter! So weird. I have never, ever seen a bird eat butter. You’d think it’d want the bread?! Then it washed it’s beak off in the pool! I know, so weird! lol! We just watched it in awe!
Here is a photo of me in the pool outside our room. I seriously got in it as soon as we got our room! The water was the perfect temperature, too! We pretty much swam and talked out here the entire first day, which was nice!
For dinner, you have the choice of 13 or so restaurants. Only one of them needed reservations, which was the Hibachi restaurant. We made reservations to eat there on July 4th. For our first night we tried out the Italian restaurant, which is called Portofino’s. It was really good, maybe one of our favorites! They brought us out a basket of various breads and for the appetizer I had a caprese salad.
I had a shrimp risotto for dinner, which was really good.
I had TWO desserts for dinner. The second one I thought was a cold coffee (which I assumed was an iced coffee?), but it turned out to be a cold coffee dessert. Ahwell. 🙂
The first night they had a Canada Day celebration.
There was also a theater show with a famous You Tuber, where he played several different instruments. It was really entertaining!
Day Two
On our first morning we saw this little guy on our way to breakfast. We saw him every morning and called him ‘our friend’. Ha! I don’t think he was wild, I think he was the kiosks worker’s pet. I should have asked her.
I had a glass of fresh watermelon juice at breakfast. So good!
I also found out they had a crepe area at breakfast. I had this lovely guy make me a strawberry nutella crepe every morning for breakfast. Topped with whipped cream. So good!
My breakfast plate. 🙂 Because, I love to take photos of food!
After breakfast we went down to the beach for the first time, because we had rented a cabana for the next two days! I highly recommend this, it is so nice, private and they bring you out food and drinks.
Another photo of our cabana. It was so comfortable and nice and shaded.
We had a nice view of the ocean! Our first cabana day, we had a cabana in the second row… then, the next day we had one in the front row, which had an even better view! We booked them our first day of vacation, but they fill up quickly!
For lunch I ordered a veggie appetizer and shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos were so fresh! I liked them so much I ordered them the next day, too.
View of the ocean. It was nice to go out in the ocean and then we could come back to the cabana to dry off. The water was so clear and calm!
I had a few drinks while we were in the cabana (of course!). The first one I tried was Sir Froggy. It was really good!
The next drink I had was a Cucumber Spritz. I didn’t really care for this one! So, I ordered something else… 🙂
I think this was a rum punch…
Brian ordered us some lemon drop shots. I don’t normally do shots, but why not?
After being on the beach all day, we went back to our room before dinner to shower and relax a bit. We decided to try the seafood restaurant (Oceana) for dinner. I loved the anchors on the tablecloth. I ordered the scallops for an appetizer. They were just OK… not the best I’ve had. I forgot to take a photo of my main dish, so it must have been good. 🙂
I had two desserts, because I couldn’t decide. 🙂 Both were really good. I can’t remember what the first one was, but the second one was chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream.
After dinner we watched a little of a Mexican dance show they had going on. There was also a Mexican buffet, but we didn’t eat anything from it. We were so full from dinner.
I’ll be sharing my Day 3 & 4 Recap (we were there only 4 nights) on Friday! Then, I’ll be starting on some Disney recap posts. 🙂
