Tea time is my absolute favorite! I find comfort in sitting with loved ones around a table enjoying hot tea with sweet cream, dainty finger sandwiches and delicate cakes or scones with fresh jam. I had the luxury of seeing this movie when it first came out at the theater. I loved the Downton Abbey show so much that I knew I wanted to buy the Downton Abbey DVD at Walmart, so that I could enjoy it in the comfort of my home. The movie brings all of the characters that you love back together and is an expansion from the series. Who is your favorite character? Mine is Violet Crawley, with her unabashed and quick wit. I was excited to see her back in the movie. This movie will let you enjoy more of the Downtown Abbey that you know and love.
The movie is about how excited the Crawley family is when they learn that King George V and Queen Mary are coming to visit. This royal visit from the King and Queen of England causes an assortment of reactions amongst the family and unleashes scandal, romance and leaves the future of Downton hanging in the balance.
Even the servants are affected by this visit. Mrs. Patmore, Daisy and the rest of the servants are upset when they learn that the King and Queen plan to travel with their own chefs and attendants. Of course, they come up with a plan to put this all to an abrupt stop with a few impromptu schemes and other shenanigans.

This time of year is already hectic, so I’m sharing details on how to set up a cozy, yet elegant coffee table tea party. This way, you can enjoy everything right in front of you while enjoying the film. It’s so easy to set up your coffee table so that it is casual yet has the elegant tea time feel. Feel free to get out some of your nice linens and tablecloths and drape them over your coffee table. You can mix and match real china, or go with the convenience of paper plates (there are so many elegant options!). Don’t forget tea cups and a selection of hot tea, iced tea or even pink lemonade. Fresh flowers are always nice and smell good, too! To top off the atmosphere around the coffee table, I included lots of cozy pillows, blankets and some candles.
A coffee table gathering is usually more on the intimate side, so you’ll want 2-3 different kinds of sandwiches sliced so that they are dainty and finger sized. I usually go with a turkey sandwiches, chicken salad and then some sort of roll up, so that there is variety in taste and size.
You really can’t go wrong with desserts. For this occasion, I put cupcakes in tea cups and pressed a fresh rose into each cupcake. So easy and it gives off the perfect elegant vibe. Then, I include macaroons in a variety of colors and I include some scones with fresh jam.
