Happy Friday Everyone!
Let’s get started with Friday Five!
One – New Master Bedroom Furniture
Last Spring, we upgraded from a Queen mattress to a King AND purchased a Sleep Number bed (which we still love!) and we FINALLY upgraded our furniture just last week in the Master Bedroom. I’ve been wanting an upholstered headboard for awhile now and y’all know my love for everything farmhouse. We went with a gray headboard and white furniture… oh, does it brighten up the room compared to our old furniture that was a dark cherry color. I’m planning to do a little decorating in the room and I hope to share more photos soon! I want to update the bedding, too as I think the pleats on the comforter in combination with the tufted headboard is a bit too much. I am so excited to start researching and figuring out how to decorate this new space. Ahh, I do love a blank canvas! 🙂
Two – Week Off from Blogging & Other Fun Events
I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! I spent the day with Nathan’s class as a driver for their iceskating field trip. Then, after Brian got home from work he surprised me with roses, chocolate covered strawberries (my fave sweet treat!), Kendra Scott jewelry and my favorite was a sweet card with a note he wrote on it.
Brian and I had a date day, where we went to a crepe place for breakfast (we shared this nutella strawberry crepe) and then we went to see the Da Vinci exhibit at the Science Center.
Some of you might have noticed that I took a week off from the blog in early February. I just needed a week to recharge and relax… and, I put my to do list aside and RELAXED! I read an entire book, went shopping for some new blog props (table runners mostly), checked out all the Spring Rae Dunn, saw a movie (Little Women – I cried my eyes out. It was SO good!), date day with Brian, field trip with Nathan and… that was about it! It was a nice week! I’m planning on taking a week off each quarter from the blog. I think it’ll help me to give myself a little time off. Because, if you blog you know… the blog NEVER stops. So, it was SO, so nice to step away for a bit!
Three – Fun Pet Stuff
Rose, our rag doll kitty is always interested in our Starbucks drinks that we get on Saturday mornings. I think she is mostly interested in the whipped cream. Well, Brian thought he’d spoil her by bringing home a Pup Cup for her, which is a small cup filled with their whipped cream. Starbucks whipped cream is like no other. Now, let’s see if Rose remembers this treat that Brian brought her home and if she is going to start ‘expecting’ it. Ha!!
Our little mommy guinea pig, Penelope loves having her chin rubbed. Isn’t she the cutest? You can see her little daughter, Stormy on the left.
Four – Latest Books & Shows
Since my last Friday Five, I’ve read (or listened on audio) 5 books. I’ve been on a roll!
This book really tore at my heart. It is about a SAHM with twins that are teens and it is their senior year. It goes through their friendships, partying and teens driving. Unfortunately, this mom’s worse nightmare happens and it is all about picking up the pieces and learning how to go on after.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris
This book is about the Auschwitz concentration camp and the tattooist who tattoos the numbers on the slaves at the camp. It is a true story and it talks about how he struggles to survive and how he falls in love with a girl at the camp. I’m currently reading another book by Heather Morris, the second book to this series called Cilka’s Journey.
American Royals (American Royals, #1) by Katharine McGee
This is a neat book about what if America had a royal family. It’s light and fun to read, but a little longer at 450~ pages. I’m excited for the second book to come out!
Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself by Melody Beattie
This book is talked about quite often on the Rise Together podcast that I listen to. I was intrigued by it and decided to listen to it on audio. It was JUST ok… I couldn’t relate to a lot in the book, because she kept referring to codependents that are married to alcoholics, etc. But, I did have some take aways from it… it’s actually a best selling book and has TONS of reviews, so it must be helping someone!
This memoir by Demi Moore is raw, inspiring and just beautiful. I was really interested to learn more about Demi and Ashton Kutcher… but, was surprised by how interesting her marriage to Bruce Willis was and how wonderfully they coparented their children when they were still young. Demi shares a lot about herself in this book and I think a lot of women (myself included) will learn so much from her message in this book.
As for shows… we just finished Big Little Lies, Season 2… which I loved, but not as much as Season 1.
We are working through season 3 of The Crown, which I am NOT loving so far. We have 3 episodes left. I really loved the first two seasons and I was hoping to love season 3, but NOPE. I’m not sure if it is the switch of actors or what, but I just can’t get into it.
