It is really easy to personalize your cosmetic chemistry through Formulate to create a customized shampoo and conditioner. First, they will have you do a brief questionnaire about you, your hair and what you’d like to achieve with your shampoo and conditioner. You are given a personal chemist and they will design your initial formulas based on your questionnaire responses. Then, they’ll check in on your progress and use your feedback to evolve your products along the way. The final goal is to design a personalized shampoo and conditioner that is optimized for the health of your hair and scalp. It is wonderful to personalize your hair care all through an app and through your personal chemist and formulation tech. Formulate’s team is onboard to help me get the perfect formulation for me and my hair!
When your shampoo and conditioner arrive, you’ll see a print out that reminds you of what you’ve selected, the ingredients, an ingredient insight (that tells you a little more about some of the ingredients that are in your products and what they do), the scent you selected (I selected cool coconut!), plus more.
I am pleased that all of the formulas at Formulation are cold mixed, sulfate free, paraben free and cruelty free. Formulate is also able to accommodate requests for silicone free, gluten free and vegan formulas.
Once you receive your customized shampoo and conditioner, you’ll have time to try it out and then you can go back into the mobile app and communicate directly with your personal formulation team before they ship your next customized products. This way you can work together with them to evolve your formulas based on how your hair and scalp are responding.
I was really pleased with how the shampoo and conditioner felt on my hair. I have naturally curly hair that I almost always wear straight or with a loose curl (otherwise, I slick it back in a wet bun). My hair has gotten quite long and it tends to be oily and frizzes easily in the summer. I use heat products a few times a week, so I wanted some thermal protection and since I have highlights and lo lights, I needed color protection. I asked for a strengthening formula, since my long locks tend to get damaged on the ends. It was exciting to be able to pick out the scent for my shampoo and conditioner and I selected a cool coconut. I don’t have any scalp issues or sensitivities, but they do offer formulas to help with those problem areas.
