Hi everyone!! I am going to be taking some breaks off and on this summer from posting on Thursday Fashion Files, so you may see a guest poster a couple times a month here until the fall. This week I have Rena Perez from It’s All Fine… Whatever Tickles the Fancy here to share her XXXX. XXX Be sure to stop by to visit her on her blog HERE and Instagram HERE.
When Carrie put out a call for volunteer guest posters for June, July, and August, I quickly sent her a message to offer my services. And I’m so glad that she accepted as I see the two of us as being “of a similar stripe”.
For a bit of background information, I’ll tell you that I hail from southern California and I’ve been married for nearly 30 years. We have two grown children (no grandkids yet) so we’re at the empty nest stage of life. A year ago April I retired after over 35 years with my employer and my husband is also retired.
On the face of it, some might say that Carrie and I are really not that much alike. We are clearly at different phases in our lives and we live on opposite sides of the country. But we both started our respective blogs as creative outlets, so when I say that I see the two of us as being of a similar stripe, I’m referring to our mutual passions for crafting, DIY projects, cooking, and of course, fashion.
I must have had Carrie and this post on my mind when I was out and about doing some retail therapy recently. One of my initial thoughts when I first spied this striped cardigan was how it would fit so nicely with Carrie’s style. But maybe I’m just being presumptuous because does it really? That’s hard for me to truly say that it does since she and I only know each other through blogging and I’m basing it on my observation of the styles she shows in her posts. But I’m entitled to my opinion … at least until proven wrong. Either way, who’s style and wardrobe wouldn’t this cardigan fit into?
Because it certainly fits into mine. I didn’t have a striped cardigan so it isn’t a duplicate of something I already owned. Plus, to my eye, the stripe in dark navy makes the overall look of the cardigan less formal than if the stripe were black. I originally planned to put together a red, white, and blue look with double denim but the outfit wound up being a bit too heavy for Summer. I’ll give that idea a try again in the Fall.
For this first go-around, I settled on olive crops with a navy t-shirt. Easy, peasy. The cardigan came with a tie belt which I opted to not wear and probably won’t as a rule. I prefer to wear my sweaters unfastened so the tie belt wouldn’t be necessary but I haven’t yet removed the loops so I’m leaving my options open.
Readers of this post who follow my blog may have taken notice of my sandals and wondered if I’m breaking one of my fashion rules. In a post I published back in May, Fashion Phobias And Other Style Rules, I shared that I only wear flip-flops when I’m near a body of water or when it’s pedicure day. And yet, don’t these sandals in these photos look like flip-flops? An exception from the rule is made for them (which I’ve had for years) because they’re not the typical thin-strapped rubber-soled thongs found at discount department stores. Never say never.
I hope that you enjoyed this post and that you’ll take a moment or two visit my blog, It’s All Fine. Whatever Tickles The Fancy. And Carrie, thank you so much for accepting my offer to be one of your guest posters this Summer. It’s been a delight to fill in for you. Stay well everyone.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday! I can’t wait to see everyones outfits for this week!
