Happy Friday Everyone!
One – Latest Happenings
Happy Friday, friends! I typically do my Friday Five post on the last week of the month, but I’m planning to take the last two weeks of this month off from blogging. I do have a few social media collaborations going on Instagram till the end of this month, but this will be my last blog post for the year (except for a Christmas card post on Christmas Day!).
I wanted to share our new Christmas tree with you! Our last prelit artificial tree lasted us 10 years! We had some issues with it last year, but we were able to correct them… however, this year it had A LOT going on with it and we decided to say goodbye to it and start over with a new tree (shop our new tree HERE!). Our old tree was from Lowes, but we landed up getting this new tree at Home Depot. I felt like Home Depot had a better selection this time around. This tree is frosted on the tips and it has GLITTER, which seems to stay put once you get the tree up and decorated. It is so pretty during the day and night and I’m pleased with it!
It seems we always have a lot of events as we get ready to wrap up school for 2 weeks before Christmas break. We had the cross country banquet and Nathan was really excited to earn a Varsity Letter and he was handed down the shower knob, which is kind of a fun way to announce he is one of the 2 team captains next year! I can’t believe next year will be his senior year and his last year of cross country in high school! AND, Autumn is seriously considering doing cross country next year in high school (instead of dance!!), which was a bit of a shocker to me… but, I want her to do what makes her happy!
I met my mom and brother for a breakfast for lunch at Golden Oak Pancake House by my mom’s house. We should have gotten a photo of my mom with us!
We take turns picking where we eat after church and when it is my turn everyone always knows I’m going to pick somewhere fancy! Ha, ha!! I have always wanted to have brunch at Panorama, which is a brunch place inside the St. Louis Art Museum. My friend Becky has always raved over it and I’ve had it on my ‘to visit’ list forever. It was closed for awhile because of Covid and when I saw it was open, I knew we had to stop in for brunch after church. Here is the entrance to it and I’m enjoying a raspberry moscato.
I will say that the food was PRETTY darn good at Panorama and I’m still craving over it. But, the view? It is pretty amazing too! In the photo on the left you see the floor to ceiling windows and you can see the
Apotheosis of St. Louis statue (it was donated to St. Louis after the World’s Fair in 1904), then in the photo on the right I’ve taken a photo of the front side of the museum where you’ll see the same statue. It was so nice to sit there and enjoy brunch with my family all while enjoying views of the gorgeous Forest Park outside.
Last year, I stumbled upon The Gingerbread Shoppe that the Kirkwood Farmer’s Market has set up during the holiday season. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to add it to a place I plan to visit every holiday season, because it has such unique stocking stuffers, small gifts and holiday sweets (and drink mixes!).
After visiting The Gingerbread Shoppe, I decided to stop into Great Harvest to grab a lunch to go. I was so excited that they have samples again (another thing that Covid had taken away from us until now!). I got samples of all three things and I enjoyed the hot slice of bread and saved the other two to share with my teens later that evening. Then, on my way out of Kirkwood I stopped at Teleo Coffee and grabbed one of their new seasonal holiday coffees, The Rudolf Latte. It had chocolate milk, coffee and a blend of almond and cherry syrups in it. It tasted like a chocolate covered cherry and was so, so good.
Two – Autumn’s 14th Birthday!
Autumn’s birthday falls RIGHT before Thanksgiving and it is always A LOT of work! This year we had her first class party since Covid and it was SO nice to have it since this is her eighth grade year and some of these girls in her class will not be attending the same high schools (I know, SO bittersweet!). We just found out that Autumn was accepted into the same Lutheran high school that her brother goes to (and that I graduated from in ’96), so I’m SO excited for her!! Anyway, back to the party. Autumn LOVES Christmas and she wanted a Christmas themed party with a hot cocoa bar, sugar and gingerbread cookies to decorate and well, we did it! It was a lot of fun!
Here are a couple more photos from the party… the hot cocoa bar area and then I set up another little area with a sherbet fizzy punch, cheese dip and brownies. If you follow my personal page on Facebook, you probably saw more photos from the party with photos of her with her friends.
Three – Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was a lot of fun! We went to Flemings with my mom, brother and SIL and enjoyed a feast! I was in a food coma afterwards. I really missed my dad not being able to be with us. We did bring him home a meal, but it is just not the same. I am hosting Christmas for my family at my house this year and he has decided not to come over, so this will be the first Christmas we won’t see him! It is SO hard when parents get older. After we had lunch on Thanksgiving, we went to Bee Tree park and took photos of the teens for my Christmas cards. Nothing like waiting till the last minute, ha ha! I am usually on top of everything, but I feel like Christmas cards are something I struggle with every year (and I’ve missed a year here and there!). Do you send Christmas cards out?
Four – Latest Books I’ve Read & Shows I’ve Watched
Shop This Book:
Currently Reading: It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover. I read It Ends With Us in 2016, I believe, so I was excited to read Colleen Hoover’s new book, It Starts With Us. I am already 25% in (on the first night I started it!) and it is SO, SO good. I hope to finish it over Christmas break.

I started an audio book too: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy (which is read by her, which I always prefer the author to read the book to you when I listen to audio books). This book is incredibly sad, but I have a feeling I’m not even at the ‘crazy’ part of the book yet.
We whipped through the newest season of The Crown and it was really good. It has Princess Dianna in it and her marriage (and divorce) to Charles and shows her as a mother in the series. We are planning to watch Harry and Meghan, and the new seasons to Firefly Lane and Emily in Paris soon! Brian wants to watch the new Games of Thrones series too and I think we need to still watch the latest season to Outlander (which I think has been out for awhile). We have a hard time keeping up with all of our shows!! I’ve also been watching The Office with Nathan, he really loves that show!
