On Nathan’s last day of camp, they planned a field trip to the Missouri Botanical Gardens to see DinoQuest in the Climatron and to visit the Children’s Garden. I decided to take the day off of work so that I wouldn’t miss out on Nathan’s first field trip! Ohhhh boy, was it an experience! A noisy (or would loud be a better word), hectic and exhausting experience. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I do it again? Heck, yeah!
There was about 20 kids that came along to the field trip and we had three tour guides from the gardens. They broke our group up so that it would be easier to explore the gardens in smaller groups. Here are the children in front of the water, if you ever visit the gardens at night, the glass blown onions (or, as the kids liked to call them- Herskey Kisses) light up and its beautiful!
Closeup of the boys. Nathan is on the far right. Nathan’s favorite part was the bodies of water and waterfalls. There was one pond that we saw that had a plant that would ‘move’ if you touched it (in order to protect itself)… I wish I could remember the name of it. Nathan was SO fascinated by it.

The Children’s Garden was really neat, but it also had all kinds of nooks and cranny’s for the kids to hide in! I would love to take Nathan back another day when I am not trying to keep tabs on 3 or 4 other kids! Here he is building a tower with blocks of wood.
The kids learned a lot, they got to smell stinky “Skunk” plants, feel Lambs Ear, see lots of dinosaurs in the Climatron, learn about Rain Forests, how strong bamboo is, etc. We then had lunch in the wonderful air conditioning and headed back to the school.
