It has been a BUSY summer over here, so I am just now getting around to blogging about the Make Tracks Through the Zoo 5K at the St. Louis Zoo that Nathan and I did back in May. This was the weekend after I chaperoned Autumn’s class trip to Branson, MO and I wasn’t expecting a good race time due to the fact that I had stuffed myself full of delicious treats all week! But, I actually landed up getting my second best EVER 5K time and I was seconds from PR’ing! If I had known I was THAT close to PR’ing, I would have hustled it and gotten that PR, but such is life. Ha, ha! Nathan finished the race with a better time from last year and he was excited about that.
Here we are at the end of the race, smiling because we were proud of our times!
Nathan did really well, he finished at 21:02, which was a 6:46 pace. I finished at 27:09 with an 8:44 pace. The zoo race is REALLY hilly, so it is a tough course. But, it is a beautiful run, because you run in St. Louis Forest Park and through the zoo.
If you haven’t been to the St. Louis Zoo, it is one of the top (free!) zoo’s in the United States. The St. Louis Zoo is located inside the St. Louis Forest Park, which is larger than NYC’s Central Park.
Here is a photo of the 5K medal. They used to give out just ribbons, so I was excited to receive something much nicer. We may make this a yearly tradition, we have had a lot of fun racing it the past 2 years!
AND, snacks! The snacks you get after a race are always the best.
