I have been wanting to do one of these ‘A Day in My Life’ posts for a LONG time. I finally set a date on my calendar and decided to just GO for it. The last one I did was when I was still working, TWO years ago! You can see it HERE. Today is Wednesday, March 2 and I woke up at 5:42 a.m.
I crawl out of bed and then I go in the kitchen and drink a protein shake (Premier Protein in Chocolate is my fave!) while I catch up on emails and some blog reading.
I usually wake up the kids at 6:40 a.m., but today Autumn was awake in her room and lying on the floor before I could wake her up. Normally she is always asleep, but a few times a month she wakes up early. I usually set her clothes out on the couch and she gets dressed while watching cartoons.
I wake Nathan up and he gets dressed in his room.
I pack Autumn’s lunch in the morning (Nathan always gets hot lunch) and while they eat breakfast I finish getting ready. We leave for school a little early, since we have to get on the highway and drive in rush hour. The kids school is about 19 miles from our house. I took a quick photo of them after we got to school and Autumn is holding a dog balloon that Brian made her that morning.
Once Nathan’s friend comes over to our car, we usually get out. It has been COLD, so we usually stay in the car until 8:00 a.m. when they open the door to the school. School starts at 8:15 a.m., so this gives the kids time to socialize and for Autumn to get started on her morning work.
After I got back home, I hopped on the treadmill to run 11 miles! I am training for my ninth half marathon and I always like to get the LONG run out of the way first thing in the week! This is a photo of me after I ran those 11 long miles and I was so happy to be done!
While I run, I catch up on Instagram and after that I read. I am reading Night Film and this book took me a couple of months to finish, it is pretty long and not something you read quickly. It was really good and I will be reviewing it on my next Currently post.
On days that I run (3 days a week), I get ready for the day after I run. I sweat so much, this just makes sense. Today I decided to wear my new IfChic shirt I earned for free with coins. I am so sad that IfChic is stopping the coins after the month of March. Boo! This shirt has a gold zipper on it, it is so cute!
After my run I was HUNGRY! One of my goals in February was to make a smoothie everyday to get extra fruits (and vegetables) in my body. I have tried to keep this up and I make a smoothie a few days a week still.
I was on my third Invisalign tray here and I have to pop these out before I eat or drink anything. I’ve become a pro at it!
Here I am enjoying my smoothie and I’m finally sitting down for the day! My legs are tired! For lunch I usually have a smoothie and any leftovers we have from dinner. If we don’t have leftovers, I will usually make myself a grilled cheese, crackers with cheese and cold cuts or I have a bowl of Heart to Heart cereal. I keep lunch pretty simple over here!
During lunch, I like to do my prayer journal and my She Knows bible study. I am doing the Lent study right now. It is really good!
A couple of times a month, I devote an afternoon to growing my blog. I have a never ending list where I jot down ideas or action items for the blog. I tackle one of these items two times a month. I usually jot these two days down in my planner and keep my schedule free so I can devote time to work on them. I spend SO much time planning, editing, shooting, writing posts that I’ve found this active time for growing my blog is SO valuable and important. I usually only have 1-2 hours, but I get a lot done in that time!
Today’s action item was updating my LinkedIn account to reflect that I am a blogger and where I blog. I would love to connect with some of you on LinkedIn, you can find my page HERE.
I had a little time leftover after I worked on updating my LinkedIn page, so I started working on my Curly Crafty News in MailChimp. I am planning on starting a monthly newsletter on the blog and the first one will come out on April 1st.
Finally, it was time to pick up the kids from school. Today was a special day, because Autumn got to bring home her BFF from school! Poor Nathan was sandwiched in-between two girls! My CRV does NOT have a big back seat!
After school, we headed straight to Papa Murphy’s. Papa Murphy’s is a take and bake pizza place. The kids each got a Mini Murph pizza and I also got a pizza for me and Brian. I also added a salad and cookie dough. Yum!
After school, I let the kids play while I unloaded the car and set up their pizzas on the table. Once everything was situated, I let them start on their pizzas while the oven preheated.
Nathan is spreading the sauce on his pizza.
Here are their little pizzas before they went in the oven!
After the kids ate, I let them play while I popped the grown up pizza in the oven. Brian and I usually get a CHEESE pizza with the kids, but since they had their own pizzas I got something different for us. This pizza is a white sauce pizza with chicken, spinach, artichoke hearts and bacon. It was SO good! While I ate, I checked over homework to make sure everything was done and done correctly. Brian ate later after he got home from work.
Brian took Nathan to karate and I took the girls to their Daisy scout meeting back at school. I usually don’t stay for the meeting, since its an hour to an hour and a half.
I decided to stop in at Walgreens, where my mom works to say ‘Hello’ to her and to do a little ‘browsing’. I love their cosmetics department! It was also nice to unwind after have three wild and crazy kids for a few hours after school. lol.
I thought it’d be fun to take some photos of what caught my eye. I have a couple of adult coloring books at home and had no idea that Crayola was also making them now. I have been wanting to try the Micellar Cleansing Water, I love that it comes in such a big bottle. I have also been wanting to try this Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub! I have some face wash products I am using currently, but maybe once I am done with those I’ll come back and try these items. The last photo shows what I actually bought… a package of Cadbury eggs (my favorite Easter candy!), Vaseline Creme Brûlée (this is my absolute FAVORITE chapstick- but, I usually get the rose colored one), a compass (for Nathan) and a bottle of Cetaphil (not shown, picked it up after I took this photo).
After I picked Autumn up from Daisy scouts, we went home and Brian and I started to get the kids ready for bed. Autumn ALWAYS has to have a bed time snack… lately she has been loving plums. I usually keep my laptop on the kitchen counter and she loves to get on it and text Grandma. She’s doing this while she eats her plum. 🙂
Brian and I trade off and tonight it was my turn to put Autumn to bed and he put Nathan to bed. Autumn has an AR book to read for school every night and this is the one she had this particular night. I remember reading this one when I was a kid!
This photo is really dark, but Autumn is finally asleep! She has a stuffed giraffe in bed with her that she got at Daisy scouts that night for selling candy & nuts.
I usually have a little bedtime snack after the kids are in bed. Tonight it was one of those Cadbury eggs that I got from Walgreens. YUM!
When I was writing this post, I realized that I didn’t have any photos of Brian in it! Oops! So, this photo isn’t from March 3 (actually from March 12), but here we are hanging out on the couch. We are usually on this couch together after the kids go to bed, unless he goes downstairs to mess around with his 3D printer.
I am usually in bed no later then 10:30 p.m. or a few minutes after. I usually check my Instagram feed one last time and then lights are out.
I hope you enjoyed this post! My goal is to do this quarterly, I think it is always fun to look back and see how life was and how it changes over time.
