Last fall, this Apple Dumpling with Mountain Dew recipe seemed to go viral. Everyone was making it… even The Pioneer Woman! I pinned it about three times from different sources and forgot about it until this fall. I am not sure why I waited so long to try it, it is easy… and, these apple dumplings just MELT in your mouth. MELT. Oh, the buttery delicious goodness! This recipe should be a fall STAPLE in your home!
I did have fun looking at all of the different variations for this recipe. The PW recipe calls for TWO sticks of buttah! Yes, TWO. I used one stick of butter and it was perfect. I also used two freshly picked Jonathan apples and they were perfect, too. I know some apples are better ‘baking’ apples than other apples… for this recipe, I really think any kind of apple would work. Why? Well, because you are wrapping it in a croissant and dumping lots of sugary and buttery goodness on it.
Take the skin off the apples and then cut them into eight slices. I used one of those apple slicer gadgets to core and slice them into eight pieces.
Wrap each apple slice up into one croissant piece. You’ll want to tuck in the side pieces, just like you are making an apple slice burrito!
Put them in a greased baking dish.
Mix together melted butter and sugar and sprinkle on top of apple ‘burritos’.
Sprinkle with cinnamon
Then, my favorite part… drizzle the Mountain Dew over the apple ‘burritos’. Drink the remaining Mountain Dew for your reward for slaving away over such a complicated dessert. 😉
Bake and serve with some ice cream and apple cider! YUM!
No need for a knife, you can cut these dumplings with a fork
