I’m back today with my April Currently post. I always enjoy updating y’all on my life happenings.
My 11th Half Marathon + a PR!
Last Sunday I ran my 10th half marathon! I trained harder for this half than any other and I finally had a half PR after 2 years, but only by 7 seconds! I finished on Sunday at 2:06:44! They changed up the course for the Go! this year and a lot of people think it was pretty tough with hill after hill. The weather also wasn’t ideal, but it could have been hotter. I felt pretty crummy the entire race and had to hydrate at every water stop and I just don’t feel I did my best. I trained at 8:50 and landed up doing 9:30 the entire race. I did do a lot of treadmill training, which probably didn’t help… but, winter training is hard y’all!
SO… I don’t know… I am starting to think this 2:00 goal of mine may be something out of my grasp. I HATE to think that way, because it’s only 6 freaking minutes. SO, I want to keep trying… I’ll be doing my 11th half this fall! I figure the fall is usually cooler and the Rock N Roll has a pretty nice course here in St. Louis. I am thinking of training with Fleet Feet (I need to double check my schedule), so I’ll be getting all of my long runs in outdoors at different locations. I’m just not sure what pace team would be best, since we do mainly the long runs together. I’m guessing they’ll help me decide that. 🙂
I also got to see a lot of my Fleet Feet friends last Sunday before and even during the race! It was so good to see them! I’ve really missed them. 🙂 And, now for the stats!!
Official Race Stats for my 11th Half Marathon with Go! St. Louis
Finished: 2:06:44
Overall: 1,672 out of 4,540
Female: 667 out of 2,675
Female 35-39: 101 out of 309
Summer Bucket List
Did I say SUMMER bucket list? Well, I used to do these bucket lists ALL the time for each season… but, the kids have SO many after school and weekend activities these days it is next to impossible to plan fun activities for US as a family. I know, a little sad… but, I’m just being honest!! SO, after seeing Leslie at Once Upon a Time Happily Ever After write about all her fun bucket lists… I’ve been wanting to do one again. SO, I think the summer will be the perfect time!
I used to do a bucket list for us as a family with the kids and one for just Brian and I! I love that Leslie’s includes a lot of fun stuff for just her and even with her husband! I think her and her husband are so cute and he even comments on her blog! I’m turning 40 this summer and I want to do something special. Brian and I talked about a kids free trip (thinking Mexico… Napa… dunno), I’ve thought about going to my first blog conference (is that a weird birthday trip idea?!) and I’ve thought about doing something here at home. Is it weird that I want to plan my 40th birthday plans? I guess I am a bit of a control freak. I think a summer bucket list will be fun and it’ll be way more manageable than a 40 before I turn 40 list. Eek, I mean… that was fun when I was 21, but 40 check off items? No thank you! If you did something fun and memorable for your 40th, let me know what it was in the comments. I need some ideas and suggestions! 🙂
Blueberry Glasses
Blueberry Glasses recently sent me a pair of their glasses that protect your eyes from blue light. These are perfect to wear when working on your laptop, especially if you are like me and spend a lot of time writing blog posts, editing photos, etc. in front of the screen. I’ve always wanted to try out a pair of these glasses, because I do think eye protection is important.
I’m wearing the glasses in the above photo. These glasses are also perfect for not only the computer, but when you’re watching TV or checking your Instagram feed on your phone.
Why do you want to avoid blue light? Typically, blue light penetrates deep into the eye, not only creating symptoms such as eye strain and fatigue, but also long-term health implications (such as retina damage that can cause vision problems like age related macular degeneration).
Blueberry Glasses are scratch resistant, easy to clean, anti-glare, anti-reflective, dust proof, UV protected, with lightweight frames suitable for all ages. These glasses come in four stylish shapes and 11 fun colors. They’re available without prescription (retailing for $59) and in readers ranging from +0.5 to +2.0 strength ($65), to help filter blue light and protect your eyesight.
Reading
Gold by Chris Cleave
I’ve had this book on my ‘to reads’ list for awhile. This is the same author of Little Bee, but Gold is a completely different book. Gold is about two cyclists (Zoe and Kate) that are competing against each other for the Olympics, yet have a unique friendship. Zoe is single and Kate is married and is torn between training and caring for her daughter Sophie who is going through chemo and has leukemia. Zoe and Kate also share the same coach (Tom) who struggles with the dynamics of the two and his own olympic fail and the ticking clock as he sees himself aging. There are some surprises and twists in this story that make it a major page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was surprised yet pleasantly content with how it ended.
HYLA3D HA Activating Complex
As I get closer to turning 40 this summer (crazy!), I’ve been more diligent about taking care of my skin. I’ve found that getting older and being unprotected in the sun are leading causes of skin damage and annoying wrinkles! Therefore, I wear sunscreen every day on my face and neck and my arms, shoulders and hands if I’m outside running.
However, I want to protect my skin even more and help it to replenish and maintain its youthful levels of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in the skin. I was excited to try Hyla3D, which has restored my skin’s hydration, youthful volume, smoothies and has reduced my fine lines!
Hyla3D works in 3 modes to address the needs of healthy, hydrated and rejuvenated skin:
1) Multiple molecular weights and forms of HA result in deep penetration and rapid, long-lasting, continual hydration.
2) Advanced technologies enhance native HA within the skin.
3) Peptides and antioxidants boost collagen and elastin. As a result, Hyla3D restores hydration and 3-dimensional volume, while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful, contoured look.
I’ve been using Hyla3D as part of my current skin care routine, immediately before applying your moisturizer.
