So, last Friday I sort of goofed up and did a Five on Friday post and then there was no link up. Which, it was the day after Thanksgiving so it wasn’t too big of a shocker. Surprisingly, I have another Five on Friday post today. But, instead of my usual ‘catch up’ post, I am doing Five Ways to Wear a Plaid Shirt! I did this back in October with my post entitled, ‘5 Ways to Style Your Blazer (see HERE)’. The blazer post was pretty popular, so I thought why not try out the same type of post, but with PLAID! Who doesn’t own a plaid shirt in their closet right now? I would think a warmer colored plaid shirt (think red/black) and a cooler colored plaid shirt (think greens or blues) would be perfect for all of the combos below.
A big thank you to Darci, April, Christina and Natasha) for the Five on Friday link up party!
Ok, so here we go. Five Ways to Wear a Plaid Shirt – Necklace, Vest, Sweater, Skirt and Boots.
It seems plaid is being ‘glamorized’ up this Fall and Winter with jewels. I am seeing lots of chunky necklaces with lots of jewels worn with plaid shirts. Faux diamonds, pearls, baubles, you name it… There are even plaid shirts with ruffles on the front that look very feminine with a pretty necklace.
The second way to wear plaid is with a vest or blazer. There are several different kinds of vests out there such as frost free, quilted and even the fur vest (I want one of these!!). A green army vest or jacket pairs nicely with a red plaid. I love the monogrammed frost free vest in the second picture.
The third way to wear plaid is by layering a sweater over it. You can even go a step further and layer a chambray shirt under the sweater and plaid. In the examples above I show a fun party/sparkly sweater, an animal sweater (these silly sweaters are so hot this fall/winter!), a neutral colored sweater and then a sweater in a trendy color (mustard).
The fourth way to style plaid is by tucking it into a skirt. My favorite is the first photo, where it is matched with a full black skirt. Another possibility is a colored skirt or even a colored belt. Lastly, there is always leather! I am in love with the last photo, a quilted leather skirt. Ahhhh!
5. Boots
Another way to dress up your plaid is to try out different pairs of boots with it. My absolute favorite right now is seeing plaid paired with Hunter Rain Boots! Ahh! The two examples I found, the women are wearing the boots with tights/hose underneath… seems kind of weird, but I love! If I get a pair of Hunter boots from Santa, I’d love to try wearing them with colored skinnies and plaid. I also love the furry boots, I would love to try that combo with a plaid shirt and fur vest. You could also wear regular tall boots or in the bottom photo it shows plaid on the actual boot. Toms are also coming out with a lot of flats in plaid colors. So fun!
What do you think? What is your favorite way to wear plaid? Have you gotten any plaid shirts this fall/winter?
Happy Friday and thanks for stopping by!
